Acting Up

"You must act as if it is impossible to fail." - Ashanti proverb

I wrote, directed and produced a play currently running in North Hollywood, CA entitled, Tracks. We have had great audiences and great responses...a good run. However, last night I felt a little discouraged because it seemed the audience was "one of those audiences". You know the kind of audience more concerned with critiquing than being entertained. The kind that doesn't seem to be willingly taking the journey with the actors. I felt my actors responding to the cold crowd and they seemed to struggle with the lack of warm support they are used to. At times I started to doubt my ability, their ability and the quality of our product. I felt defeated as if I had not done all I could do, but then I read this beautiful Ashanti proverb. WOW!!! The Universe sent me exactly what I needed this morning and I will pass this on to all of you.

The beautiful thing about creativity is it is something only you and a few people comprehend. When your creative vision resonates with the people around you count yourself beyond fortunate. However, the realization that everyone does not understand and appreciate your creative expression must not make us question ourselves. Instead it should motivate you to listen more carefully, work more diligently and express more fearlessly than ever before.

My play Tracks is about stopping to acknowledge the place you are in and the journey you've taken to arrive. Understanding the things that happen around us are all designed to bring us to a place of self-realization. A place where we may say, "I am on the right track. I am on the justice track. I am on the pride track. I am on the family track. I am on the truth track. I am on the faith track. I am on the forgiveness track. I am on the renewed track. I am on the MOGUL TRACK."
